Difference Between Thermoplastic Solenoid Coil and Thermosetting Solenoid Coil

BESSER

Solenoid coils can be roughly classified into plastic-encapsulated solenoid coils, metal shell coils, and non- shell coils according to the presence or absence of a casing and the casing material.

Here we are mainly talking about plastic-encapsulated coils. Plastic-encapsulated materials can improve the insulation, resistance and mechanical strength of solenoid coils, but they are much lighter than metal casings. The main principle is: plastic seal a layer of plastic shell with high insulation resistance and strong mechanical strength outside the wound solenoid coil, so that the solenoid coil is isolated from the outside world, fundamentally preventing the entry of water or moisture, and extending the solenoid the service life of the coil.

The encapsulating material of solenoid valve coil can be divided into two types: thermoplastic plastic and thermosetting plastic. A coil encapsulated with thermoplastic plastic is usually called a thermoplastic solenoid coil, and a coil encapsulated with a thermosetting plastic is called a thermosetting coil. According to the actual application environment, they are widely used in various industries.

The Difference Between Thermoplastic Solenoid Coil and Thermosetting Solenoid Coil

  • Thermoplastic plastics

The characteristic of this type of plastic is that it can become soft with the increase of temperature, be molded into a shape, and become hard after cooling. This process can be repeated many times. The weather resistance and toughness of the thermoplastic coil are better. The most conventional material is PA66, followed by PA6.

  • Thermoset plastics

The characteristic of this type of plastic is that it can be cured at a certain temperature, after a certain time of heating or adding a curing agent. The cured plastic is hard and insoluble in solvents, and cannot be softened by heating. If the temperature is too high, it will decompose. The thermosetting coil has a higher temperature resistance level, less shrinkage during injection molding, and a relatively flat appearance. At present, the thermosetting materials are all BMC, but the glass fiber content and formula are slightly different

In addition, the production processes of thermoplastic coils and thermoset coils are also somewhat different, which is mainly reflected in the final encapsulation process.

  • Encapsulation process of thermoplastic coil

The encapsulation of the thermoplastic coil is completed by a thermoplastic injection molding machine. The cooling molding process is adopted, the molding time is relatively short, and the production efficiency is high.

  • Encapsulation process of thermoset coil

The encapsulation of the thermoset coil is completed by a thermoset injection molding machine, which uses a thermoforming process, which takes a relatively long time to form and has lower production efficiency than thermoplastic coils.

So How Do We Choose the Solenoid Coil?

When you need the coil to look better, have better water resistance, and better heat dissipation performance, we usually recommend that you choose to buy a thermoset coil.

If you only need cheap solenoid valve coils, then we recommend choosing thermoplastic solenoid valve coils. Its manufacturing cost is relatively economical.

As an experienced solenoid valve coil manufacturer and exporter, we provide solenoid coil products to customers all over the world. Our coils have many types, good quality and low prices, which are very worth buying.

No matter which type of coil you need, we can produce or customize it, just need you give us a call now!
